The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to promote inclusive healthcare by strengthening HIV prevention awareness among Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
Through the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), the state organized a sensitisation programme aimed at improving access to HIV prevention, testing, and treatment services for persons with hearing and visual impairments.
According to LSACA, the initiative is designed to close existing gaps in healthcare delivery caused by communication barriers, stigma, and social exclusion that often limit access for PWDs. The agency noted that inclusive health education materials, including braille translations and sign language interpretation, have been introduced to ensure that HIV-related information is accessible to all residents.
Speaking at the programme, LSACA’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to equitable healthcare delivery, stressing that no group should be left behind in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
She added that empowering PWDs with accurate information on prevention and care is critical to achieving Lagos State’s goal of zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination, and zero AIDS-related deaths.
The programme also featured practical demonstrations on HIV self-testing, prevention strategies, and rights-based access to healthcare services.
LSACA reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inclusive health systems and expanding HIV response programmes across all communities in the state.
