This theme reflects a global reality — asthma is treatable, but not everyone can access the treatment that keeps it under control.
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory condition of the airways. Without proper management, it can lead to severe breathing attacks, emergency hospital visits, and preventable deaths. The challenge is not the absence of effective treatment; it is consistent access to it. Why inhalers are central to asthma control.
Despite being essential, inhalers are still not universally accessible due to high cost for many families, limited availability in primary healthcare systems, and low awareness or improper usage in some communities.
This gap continues to drive avoidable emergencies and deaths, especially in low-resource settings. This year’s theme is a reminder that asthma control should not depend on income or geography.
It calls for stronger health systems, better affordability, and wider awareness so that every person with asthma can access the inhalers they need to live well.
