How Expired Drinks Allegedly Returned to Sale at Lagos Trade Fair

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a suspected operation involving expired drinks allegedly prepared for resale at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex.

The operation led to the arrest of two suspects and the discovery of more than 20 illegal stores at Zamfara Plaza, BBA Trade Fair Complex, Ojo, Lagos State. NAFDAC reportedly valued the seized products at over ₦2 billion.

According to reports, the agency’s operatives uncovered activities involving the alleged revalidation of expired beverages, counterfeit alcoholic drinks and repackaging materials.

The suspected operation raises concerns about how expired products could return to the market with altered labels, making it difficult for consumers to know whether the drinks they purchase are safe.

NAFDAC has urged the public to report suspicious product handling and sales activities. Consumers are also advised to check expiry dates, inspect bottle seals, and avoid beverages with signs of tampering.
The agency has also intensified its efforts to protect public health through action against illegal agrochemicals. Read more about the agency’s crackdown on illegal pesticides to protect food safety.
