The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that there are currently no reported or confirmed cases of Hantavirus in Nigeria, following growing global conversations and concerns surrounding the virus.
In a public health advisory, the agency reassured Nigerians that the risk level within the country remains low, while surveillance and monitoring efforts have been strengthened to ensure early detection of any possible threat.
Hantavirus is a viral disease commonly linked to rodents and can spread through contact with infected rodent urine, droppings, saliva, or contaminated dust particles. Health experts say it does not spread through normal casual contact between people in most cases.
The NCDC urged citizens to maintain proper hygiene, keep environments clean, avoid exposure to rodents, and rely on verified information instead of panic-driven reports circulating online.
The agency also emphasized its continued collaboration with health authorities and international partners to monitor developments and protect public health.
