Resident doctors at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, Ogun State, have commenced a 10-day warning strike over unpaid revised professional and specialist allowances and other welfare-related issues.
The action followed a resolution reached at the second-quarter ordinary general meeting of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), OOUTH. In a communiqué signed by the association’s president, Dr John Omotoso, the doctors expressed concern over the non-implementation of the revised allowances and the failure to clear outstanding arrears despite the expiration of an earlier 14-day ultimatum.
The association also raised concerns over delays in the payment of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund, manpower shortages leading to increased workload, and deteriorating welfare conditions. Other issues highlighted include insecurity within the hospital premises, inadequate accommodation facilities and poor quality of call meals.
According to the communiqué, the doctors are demanding immediate payment of the Medical Residency Training Fund and the inclusion of the revised professional and specialist allowances in the July 2026 salary. They also called for improvements in hospital security and the renovation of doctors’ call rooms and accommodation facilities.
The association said it would review the situation at the expiration of the warning strike and determine further steps if its demands remain unmet.
