Federal Government Confirms Dr. Donald Ofili as MLSCN Registrar/CEO

The Federal Government has appointed Dr. Donald Ofili as the substantive Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), a move expected to strengthen the regulation and advancement of medical laboratory services across the country.

Dr. Ofili had been serving in an acting capacity since April 2025 following the death of the former Registrar/CEO, Prof. Tosan Erhabor. Before then, he was the Council’s Deputy Registrar and one of its most senior officials.

The appointment was announced by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, signaling government confidence in his leadership and experience within the laboratory science profession. During his tenure as acting Registrar, Dr. Ofili oversaw key regulatory, accreditation, and professional development activities aimed at improving laboratory standards nationwide.

Stakeholders say the confirmation provides stability for the Council at a time when quality diagnostics and laboratory services are increasingly important to Nigeria’s healthcare system.

The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria is responsible for regulating the training, practice, and professional standards of medical laboratory scientists and laboratories across the country.
