The Oyo State Government has commenced training for health officers across 33 Local Government Areas under the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI)) programme. The initiative is aimed at strengthening the capacity of frontline health workers to identify, treat, and refer common childhood diseases such as malaria, pneumonia, diarrhoea, and malnutrition.
According to health officials, the programme is designed to enhance primary healthcare delivery by ensuring timely and effective treatment of under-five illnesses at community health facilities.e most patients first seek care.
IMCI is a World Health Organization strategy designed to improve child survival by enhancing health worker skills, strengthening health systems, and promoting better family and community health practices.
The training forms part of Oyo State’s broader effort to improve primary healthcare delivery and reduce preventable child deaths across communities.
