Nigeria has taken a significant step in strengthening its HIV response as the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) announces Anambra State as the pilot location for its upcoming National HIV/AIDS Prevention Plan (2026–2030).
The initiative is designed to reduce new HIV infections through more targeted, data-driven, and community-focused interventions across the country.
According to NACA, Anambra State was chosen based on its strong technical readiness, effective coordination structures, and commitment to public health programmes.
The state will now serve as a model for testing and refining national HIV prevention strategies before wider rollout across Nigeria.
