WHO Urges Youth-Friendly Health Services

WHO Urges Youth-Friendly Health ServicesThe World Health Organisation (WHO) has called on Nigeria and other African countries to create youth-friendly health services and encourage healthy lifestyles.
A statement from the organization said WHO Regional Director for Africa,  Dr Matshidiso Moeti, made the call yesterday during her address at maiden Africa Health Forum, launched by the WHO Africa and the Government of Rwanda in Kigali.
Dr Moeti said there was need for youth, who were not just beneficiaries of services, but who would be at the decision-making table as the organisation partners across sectors for a more prosperous, sustainable future for everyone in Africa.
She called for partnership with the private sector, African philanthropists and Africa’s youth to tackle challenges and get results in improving the health of people of the region.
The statement said Africa is the only region in the world where the population as a whole is getting younger. “People under the age of 18 make up 50% of the population in 15 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.”
