Wearing Mask Better than Being on Ventilator –NCDC boss

The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, has advised Nigerians to keep wearing face masks in order to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Ihekweazu said this on Monday during the Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja.

He said, “Wearing a mask might seem cumbersome, but I promise you, it’s less cumbersome than being on a ventilator.

“Over the last few weeks, many of you would have heard stories, stories of survival; but there are many stories that would have been told that you have not heard, stories of those that have passed away.

“Many of us have become desensitized about the messages because we say that so often for the past six months.

“Even for us coming out here to speak, sometimes, it is a challenge having to say the same things over and over again, asking all of us to take responsibility to do the best that we can,” the NCDC boss said.

So far, there were 40,532 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Nigeria; 17,374 discharged, with 853 deaths.
