PCN seals off 280 medicine stores in Zamfara

The pharmacists Council of Nigeria has sealed off 280 patent medicine stores in Zamfara state for various offences, the director inspection and monitoring of the council Mrs Anthonia O Aruya has said.

Briefing newsmen shortly after an enforcement exercise Mrs Aruya said a total of 365 premises comprising four pharmacies and and 361 Patent Medicine shops were visited.
 
She said some of the offences include operating without registration with pharmacists Council of Nigeria, failure to renew  premise licences , dispensing ethical products without the supervision of a pharmacist and poor sanitary conditions among others.
 
“One of the core mandates of the PCN is to ensure rational distribution and dispensing of medicines that are safe, effective and of good quality to the public and pharmaceutical facilities are expected to fulfill certain conditions in line with PCN guidelines  before registration,” she added.
 
She further explained that the PCN team observed that in Zamfara state many pharmaceutical premises commenced operations without fulfilling the minimum requirements for registration while others failed to renew their licences to operate such premises or shops.
