The MD, Hygeia HMO Limited, Mr. Obinna Abajua, has stressed the need for health care providers to offer health services to the people at affordable rates.
He made the statement while delivering his opening speech at the Healthcare Nigeria Conference, held at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos last week.
Abajua, in his speech, noted that the theme of the conference, ‘Sustainable Health care – The Roadmap’, was derived from the existing reality where it was no longer sufficient to simply have potential, hope or desire.
He said it was all about real and executable action plans for each operator in the health care value chain.
He said, “Without corporate and individual action, the poor sanitation habit of people, which has been exposing them to non-communicable diseases, can contribute to the decreasing life expectancy among Nigerians.
“We are particularly glad for the presence of various industry participants; hospitals, pharmacies, diagnostics, HMOs, consultants, financiers, employers of labour and patients too. It has given birth to an open and neutral online platform where critical discussions that have led to demonstrable outcomes for the Nigerian Health sector have been held.“
Explaining why the conference focused on highlighting actions taken by various participants in the health value chain, Abajua said the support from stakeholders would bring access to health care to more people at affordable costs.
