Ibom Specialist Hospital Records First Successful NeurosurgeryThe Ibom Specialist Hospital located in Akwa-Ibom State has recorded a successful neurosurgery at the hospital.
Dr. Dominic Ukpong, the state commissioner for health disclosed this in Uyo while speaking to Journalist on the progress of the hospital. He said that the hospital was created with the vision of reversing medical tourism.
He went further to state that since the resumption of services at the hospital, many patients had received adequate treatments to their ailments including the latest successful brain surgery by Dr. Okezie Kanu, a notable neurosurgeon and other esteemed medical experts.
He praised the Governor, Governor Udom Emmanuel for his doggedness in ensuring that citizens get the best medical care.
The commissioner also said that many consortia of medical firms, both within and overseas have shown interest in managing the hospital. However, he assured that only the best team will win the bid to carry out the services at the hospital on a 24 hour basis, based on referrals.
Ignatius Akpabio, the special assistant to the governor on medical services and the consultant at the Government House Clinic, said that the equipment at the hospital competes favourably with medical equipment all over the world.
The Acting Director of the hospital, Dr. Ini Etukudo remarked that the hospital had seen an increase in the number of patients and that the hospital would fulfil the mandate it was set up for; which is to reverse medical tourism abroad.
He commended the state government for their firm resolve in ensuring that the health care delivery system of the state receives priority attention.
