“I got my first boyfriend when I was a student at the University. This boy was very handsome and charming so when he asked me to become his girlfriend, I felt like the luckiest woman in the world. My happiness, however, did not last. This boy, with all his beauty and charm, had the dirtiest briefs I had ever seen. The briefs really put me off”, Bisola, a make-up artiste said.

You must have heard the expression “clean underwear is important for your health”. Experts have advised men to always wear clean underwear. They say how often a man washes his underwear largely depends on the kind of activities he does. Men who do a lot of heavy work that maybe involves carrying loads of things, should wash their underwear everyday because they sweat a lot. Because there is health implications for a man who wears dirty underwear.

According to Gregory D. Albert, MD, a physician in Delray Beach, Fla. “Underwear most importantly needs to be changed frequently and always remain clean, and I need to tell you, be discarded when they are thread-bare or stained,”. He stressed further. “If you work out or sweat excessively, it may be a good idea to change midday to remain fresh.”

“Throw it out. Once a month throw out any underwear that is unpresentable. Get rid of it. “In fact, every time you get a haircut, buy some new underwear”, April Masini, a columnist said.

  • Bacterial infection: Dirty underwear for men is often a breeding ground for all sorts of microbes; these bacteria usually always result in developing urinary tract infections.

You should change and wash your clothing regularly: Choose a quality laundry detergent to remove general soils and stains. There are many varieties of laundry detergent to choose from: powders and liquids; for top-loader or front-loader washing machines; for whites, colours or dark clothing; with added enzymes; with added fabric softener; with a variety of fragrances or fragrance-free; for sensitive skin; and with low phosphorus or no added phosphorus.

If you see a stain, treat it fast! There are many types of stain removal products, including spot treatments, soaks, and in-wash products. Make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and check your garment for colourfastness.

Always dry washed clothes: To help prevent the growth of mould, wet washed items should be hung or dried as soon as the wash cycle has finished, and damp clothing should not be left at the bottom of the washing basket.
