Tragedy struck at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) when three students of the institution were found dead in a hotel after allegedly taking a mixture of tramadol, codeine and vodka.
The bodies of the students, three male and a female, were found naked at the Sunshine Castle Hostel, Umuchimaihiagwa, one of the host settlements close to the University.
Our correspondent gathered that two of the students died instantly, while the lady amongst them and another male student were found unconscious. They were immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, where they were admitted at the Intensive Care Unit.
Unfortunately, the male student later died at the hospital, after efforts to revive him by a team of medical personnel failed. At the time of filling this report, students were said to have vacated the hostel, while the caretaker has been arrested by the police.
Public Relations Officer of the University, Mrs. Uche Bright-Nwaelue, said that the institution is yet to ascertain the status of the victims as students of the University.
Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident.
According to him, the caretaker reported the matter and detectives were despatched to the scene and found the four of them stark naked and unconscious. He added that substances suspected to be tramadol and Indian hemp were found with them.
