Why Your Sex Drive Is In Low Gear

Why Your Sex Drive Is In Low Gear

Men's Health, NEWS, Women's health
As a sex therapist, the No. 1 complaint I hear from both women and men is low libido. They visit me on their own or as couples, perplexed by the seemingly inexplicable drop in desire, either their own or that of their partner. Many people are hopeful that this decrease in sex drive has a simple cause and therefore a simple solution. While that's true in some cases, low libido is more often the complex result of several intertwining factors. Low desire can have many causes, whether biological influences such as the side effects of medication, psychological factors such as body image or relational triggers such as being angry with your partner. Addressing the problem means viewing it through multiple lenses at once, taking what we call a bio-psychosocial-relational approach. Here's a l...
A Hygiene Checklist for Men

A Hygiene Checklist for Men

Men's Health, NEWS
Personal cleanliness and good hygiene practices are essential for health and social reasons. In fact, people who are perceived as smelly or unclean are often ostracised by others. For the men folk there is more to it than just wearing deodorant and rinsing with mouthwash. Women pay serious attention to men’s looks and get turned off when they meet men who fall short of their standards, especially in terms of hygiene. Either way, there are some serious personal hygiene tips and habits that should be part of the daily routine of the average man. Hand Washing Washing your hands before preparing or eating food, after going to the bathroom, after coughing or sneezing, and after handling garbage, goes a long way toward preventing the spread of bacteria and viruses. Apply soap and lather for at

A Man’s Tattoo Left Doctors Debating Whether to Save His Life

Men's Health, NEWS
A man is admitted to the hospital, unconscious, with a history of serious health problems and a high blood alcohol level. He has no identification and no family with him. On his chest, he has a tattoo: “Do Not Resuscitate.” What would you do? It sounds like a worst-case-scenario question from a medical ethics course, but it really happened recently at a Florida hospital. A newly published study in The New England Journal of Medicine explored the ethical and medical conundrums the staff faced when presented with a 70-year-old patient whose denial of potentially life-saving treatment was right there on his skin. At first, doctors wanted to ignore it According to the study, authored by a team of medical professionals from the University of Miami, the doctors attending to the man didn’

Men who go Bald Before Age 40 Risk Heart Attack –Study

Men's Health, NEWS
Men who go grey or bald in their 20s or 30s may be at greater risk suffering a heart attack, research suggests. People who lose their hair or go grey before the age of 40 are five times as likely to also suffer heart problems at an early age, scientists found. They discovered it was an even bigger risk factor than obesity, which raised the risk of early heart disease four times.  Experts suspect premature balding and grey hair are red flags that the body is ageing too fast. They believe some people’s ‘biological age’ accelerates faster than their real, or chronological, age. This happens when DNA starts to deteriorate, damaging the cells of the body. Such a process harms the heart — but also damages the hair follicles, which is displayed in grey or bald hair. Lead researc

Wearing Of Necktie – Health Implications To Watch Out For

Men's Health, NEWS, Women's health
Fashion can be fun, but it can also take a toll on you. Everyone wants to keep up with the latest fashion trends. Wearing a necktie has been a long time fashion statement, and it’s still very much with us today. You can buy neckties and wear them for any occasion, and as often as you wish, but experts have cautioned that this fashion trend if wrongly applied may increase your risk of breathing problems, infections, and even body misalignment. If you work around machinery, there is a real risk of getting a tie caught in gears or other parts of machinery which can lead to tragic events. In other cases, it is not so much the tie itself but rather how it is tied or even the degree of tightness. In most corporate establishments in Nigeria today, you will find members of both sexes wearing all

Anybody can fall victim to mental ill health, and there are many forms of mental illnesses that affect both men and women. Even though most people especially in this part of the world may be slow to admit that they may have some sort of mental health problems, yet it is a social reality we are living with. It is especially so for men who due to socio-cultural expectations or demands, are less likely to talk about their feelings and also look for help where necessary. As a result experts say “men are scared to admit that they’re depressed.” In getting solutions however, acknowledging that there is a problem and noting the signs that may signify that someone has a mood or mental turmoil, is a basic and foremost step to take towards getting help or treatment, and living a better life. Man Dies In Sleep After Leaving Fans On When Temperatures Dropped

Men's Health, NEWS
Before heading to bed, a Thai man set up three fans on the floor of his room in order to stay cool. But the bedroom appliances would soon play a role in his death. Shortly after falling asleep, the fans caused his body temperature to drop dangerously low, eventually causing him to die from hypothermia. Sobathawee Boonkua’s body was discovered on November 3 by a local police officer and emergency workers at 8:30 AM, The Straits Times, an English-language newspaper in Singapore, reports. A medical examiner, who was also present at scene, said the temperature in Boonkua’s room dropped too low and caused him to go into shock. Hypothermia from cold bedrooms mainly occurs among babies, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). But Boonkua was 44 years old and previ

Successful womb transplants into women could be extended to men. Surgeons believe the same technology could allow men to carry a baby, Dr Richard Paulson said there was ‘no scientific reason for it not to happen’ ,An international agreement only allows womb transplants in women.  Men could become pregnant ‘tomorrow’ thanks to advances in womb transplantation, according to a leading fertility expert. The success of womb transplants into women has paved the way for a similar operation being carried out on people born male. Dr Richard Paulson said that now wombs have been successfully transplanted into women born without them, ‘trans women’ – people born biologically male but who have had sex change surgery – will also want a womb transplant. This would allow them to carry a baby – and th

Urologist: The 8 Ways A Man Is Unknowingly Damaging His Sperm Count

Men's Health, NEWS
Many couples experience fertility problems and low sperm count can be a key factor. Sperm counts in men worldwide have declined by half over the past 50 years and are continuing to fall, according to recent reports. But before you rush for anxiety-inducing tests, there are plenty of things a man can do to help things along and make sure his swimmers are in good nick. Men are always producing new sperm – so little changes can make a difference quickly. Dr Edmund Sabanegh, director of the Center for Male Fertility and Chair of the Urology Department at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, takes a look at eight commonly suspected sperm-lowering culprits and gives his verdict. 1. How Long Should You Last In Bed?

Men's Health, NEWS
In a study by two scientists, Eric Corty and Jenay Guardiani, from the Pennsylvania State University in the United States, good sex does not necessarily have to last for hours. In fact, they said it could last for minutes. They noted that satisfactory sexual intercourse should actually be between three and 13 minutes. Some sex experts are of the view that when sex lasts anything longer than ten minutes, it is a statistical anomaly! Some of the confusion about how long sex should last derives from the way we conceive the act. Other sex experts reveal that durability during sex depends on the mood. They cite instances when you have had a bad day at the office and you get home late and tired. When you try to have sex your mind is just not there and you cannot get an erection. Your partner a...

In April 2013, researchers writing in BMC Medicine had sorted through thousands of results in 27 clinical trials and also determined that the risk of cardiovascular events went up for men on testosterone. (Curiously, this risk became apparent only in trials that were not paid for by the makers of the drugs.) Then in November 2013, researchers for Colorado's Veteran's Affairs system wrote in the Journal of the American Medical Association that they'd analysed the data from 8,000 men with low T who had gotten an angiogram before going on the hormone. Three years after starting, 26 percent of the men on testosterone had either experienced a new cardiovascular event or died, versus only 20 per cent of the men who didn't take testosterone. Another alarm sounded in 2014, when a study in the jou...

Sperm Cells Created in Lab to Beat Major Cause of Male Infertility

Men's Health, NEWS
Sperm cells have been created in the laboratory, offering hope for a cure for a common cause of male infertility. Around one in 500 men have an extra X or Y chromosome, which disrupts their sperm production. Using male mice, scientists at the Francis Crick Institute in London created multi-purpose stem cells – which can be used to create any type of cell – from ear tissue. These were treated to become sperm cells. Injected into the mouse’s testes, they became fully functioning sperm, allowing the mice to fertilise females. If the same technique were to work in human stem cells, it could allow many sterile men to become fathers. Such a treatment would require a change in the United Kingdom (UK) law that bans the use of artificially produced sperm to make babies. The scientists have

For most guys, the bedroom is probably the one place you don't want to finish first. Sex experts agree that nothing makes a guy feel more insecure than coming up short when it matters most. Researchers have pointed out that the average guy lasts only 5 to 10 minutes during sex, and 71 percent of men want better sexual endurance. It is no fun for her and embarrassing for you (man) when it all ends too early. “I dated a guy whom my friends and I called five-second, because every time he and I had sex, it was over in about five seconds. It got to the point where he only felt comfortable having sex after drinking, which then, of course, led to him taking so long to cum. This I do not find funny” Miss Oluchi, an undergraduate said. Another respondent, who does not want her name in print, said
