Recently the Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award (NHEA) publicly hornoured well deserving individuals and organisations spanning various fields of endeavour that have to do with the health care industry. The event which was well attended, and full of razzmatazz, was also the fêting of high achievers who gathered to receive tributes and accolades in a colourful ceremony in Lagos.
Prominent and up-coming industry and media stakeholders in the Nigeria healthcare sector were rewarded and recognised for their hard work and contributions. Some of them included: Professor Ibironke Akinsete and Pharm. (Mazi) Sam Ohubunwa, who were honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Awards at the event at Eko Hotel.
The event which was sponsored by Sterling Bank and PharmAccess Foundation also saw so many others receiving awards in their different categories; they include: GE Healthcare (Biomedical Engineering Service Provider of the Year), Lagoon Hospitals (Private Healthcare Provider of the Year), Safer Mom (PharmAccess Innovative Healthcare Service Provider of the Year), Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano (Tertiary Healthcare Provider of the Year), Medplus (Pharmaceutical Retail Outlet of the Year), and Nordica Fertility (IVF Service Provider of the Year) amongst others.
Dr. Anthony Omolola, Chairman of the NHEA Advisory Board expressed happiness and thanked everyone who has given support to the organisers of the annual event, and for the general acceptance the awards have received among industry players. “We are very excited and happy with the kind of support and confidence this award is receiving. Your honoured presence and active participation have continued to be a source of encouragement to us,” Omolola said on the night.
On his part, the ‘man of the night’, Pharm. Ohuabunwa, while expressing his appreciation on receiving his award said, “With the personalities here tonight and those being celebrated, I have no doubt about the credibility of this award. Nigerian healthcare workers put in so much and they are hardly recognised or celebrated. I thank everyone who put this together.”
A major highlight of the event was also the award to the Doyen of Pharmaceutical journalism in Nigeria, Pharm. Ifeanyi Atueyi. The veteran pharmacist and publisher of the renowned monthly pharmaceutical news publication, Pharmanews, was praised for his consistency spanning 38 years; he (Pharmanews) was presented with the award of the Healthcare Media Excellence Award of the year in the print media.
NHEA is annually organised by Global Health Projects & Resources in collaboration with Anadach USA. This awards event was the fourth edition in the series.
