83 % of New COVID-19 Infections are Contacts of Existing Cases-NCDC

The Director General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Dr Chikwe Ihekeazu Tuesday in Abuja said that 83 per cent of new COVID-19 cases currently being recorded in Nigeria are contacts of existing cases. Updating journalists with facts and figures at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, the NCDC boss revealed that 812 healthcare workers with 29 of them working with his agency have been infected by the disease but he however vowed that 37 response teams made up of over 450 workers deployed across the country are not deterred to support the response efforts being undertaking by them. COVID-19: FG Says Nigeria Yet to Reach Peak of Infection

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 says Nigeria is yet to reach the peak of the deadly disease infections. Chairman of the PTF and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF); Boss Mustapha disclosed this at the COVID-19 daily news conference on Monday in Abuja. Mustapha disclosed that it was necessary to restate to the citizenry that Nigeria had not reached the peak of confirmed cases; adding that the battle against COVID-19 was a long term battle. Further, he urged Nigerians to pursue a strategy that would aid the sustainable control of the spread of COVID-19; stressing that risk communications and community engagement should remain top priority. The PTF Chairman added that precision approach to containment and management should be adopted; based on the overal
